We are excited to announce a new book by Lydia Hirn from Lydia Lu Languages, called Hebrew Alephbeit for Beginners from Psalm 119.

Old City JerusalemLydia started working on this book shortly after her first trip to Israel for the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot in Hebrew) in the fall of 2018. While she had been growing in her ability to read her Bible straight from the Hebrew text (which opened up a whole new world of meaning), her trip to Israel helped her realize how important it is that children also learn Modern Hebrew and be able to communicate in Hebrew every day. Her new book incorporates 135 modern Hebrew vocabulary words that are incredibly practical and fun! It includes daily vocabulary review, as well as flashcards and many ways to be creative in learning the language.

In January, I interviewed Lydia about why she wanted to write Hebrew curriculum, and you can catch that interview here:

flashcard_word_funLydia has 14 siblings and is a homeschooling graduate herself, giving her a lot of experience teaching Hebrew to young children in a way that they can understand. She wanted to use the Bible to teach Hebrew, and chose Psalm 119 for its straightforward and organized approach to the Hebrew alephbeit. In her new book, kids can find the letters in a passage from Psalm 119 each week. When my own kids tried it, they said it was fun, like doing a word search but in another language.

The clip art for the book was drawn by my son Arik Elliott, whose special love for illustrating things for children really shines in the illustrations. Okay, I might be a little biased! <wink>

As we’ve been working on the production of this book, I showed it to several adults, none of whom knew any Hebrew. Without an exception, each one said that they would buy the book for themselves. It wasn’t just for children! I agree, and I look forward to Lydia’s future books and being personally helped in my learning of the Hebrew language.

Whether you purchase this book for each of your children, or you use it in your own daily study, I hope you are blessed and strengthened through it in your love for God’s Word.
